Firstly Id like to apologise for referring to 'the guy with the pink
hair', as some researching on past conversation here about Veoh
reveals that its Halcyon who has posted here to this group in the
past. (eg http://groups.yahoo.com/group/videoblogging/message/19607) I
did not mean to refer to someone who is actually in this group in a
way that made them sound like an unknown person we've never heard from.

Now I just noticed that Ive received an email from Veoh too. I
certainly dont remember signing up. It could be my bad memory, but
considering the number of other people affected, I think someones
taken liberties with your mailing list system.

Who knows who is responsible, but I wouldnt be surprised if someone
had harvested email addresses from this very yahoo group.

Even if it wasnt an action sanctioned by Veoh, you are still
responsible for your list. A good and fully compliant/safge system for
such lists may work as follows.

Opt-in with validity check.

User puts their email address into a form on website to sign up to
list (as at present)

System sends user a confirmation email, saying that someone has
entered this email address to be surscribed to veoh mailing list. This
email includes a link they have to click on to CONFIRM that they
actually wanted to sign up. If they dont click the link, they are NOT
added to your email database.

Sometimes such emails also contain the IP address of the computer that
made the initial request on the website, along with a warning to that
affect on the page where you subscribe, as a deterrant against gits
putting other peoples email addresses intot he system.

Whilst Im spouting advise from my high-horse, I may as well comment on
the whole 'upload tools gets released first' philosophy that Veoh seem
to have gone for, and google video the same before them. Whilst its
totally understandable from a technology point of view, ie you want to
test that part of system and actually get content onto server first,
it sucks for encouraging people to take an interest. Feedback from the
early days of the google video beta showed this.

ie Why would I want to upload content to a new and untried network
when I cant see what the experience is like from a viewers perspective?

On a positive note, if youve released a PC and a Mac version at the
same time, you get a big thumbs up for that from me.

Cheers
