You could email me privately (I'm a manager of this group, which you could sort-of confirm by observing that I created the current version of http://groups.google.com/group/vim_use/web/vim-information). I'm not sure what I can do, but I can see the status of any user (e.g. someone who has had errors), and I can unsubscribe a user (which, in theory, would allow the user to start subscribing from scratch). I could also try the steps you list and see what happens. I occasionally browse the Google Groups Help Forum, and confirm that it would be useless to raise the issue there. It is widely recognised on that forum that there are several bugs in Google Groups that occasionally bite people (despite the fact that most posts to the forum are from the clueless).
