If you upgrade to 7.5.5 and then install OT 1.1.2 and AppleShare Client 3.7.4, and buy Shareway IP (www.opendoor.com/shareway), you'd be able to share to 10.4 and later machines as well. I've tried it; it works. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

I totally agree. My SE/30 sits beside a Mac-II box with nothing in it but a power supply and four SCSI disks that are connected to the SE/30. The SE/30's power is controlled by the Mac-II power supply which shuts down nicely when we get on of those fairly regular lightning strikes here on the front range of the Rockies. After the storm I get to choose when to restart. Those good design ideas are lost on new Macs. Stariways' NetPresenz runs under OS 7.5.3 and file sharing is functional for Apple products running OS 10.3.9 or earlier. My Linux boxes have no problem curl-ing to and from the SE/30. This 8500 is quite happy with it. My G4 running OS 10.3.9 is comfortable. My IIFX was happy but it has been shut down to make room for a fast Linux box that handles the WWW better than any Mac I have. I can use scp and ssh from pretty much anything including Mac OS 9. But. . . The lady of the house is an iphone user who runs Leopard on an iMac and she's simply unwilling to jump through the curl or other ftp hoops that are required since Apple dropped AppleTalk over ethernet with 10.4.0. It's a bit frustrating and it definitely points me more and more toward Ubuntu Linux. There, if I don't like it, I can change it! OS neXt has this neat "go connect to server" which will connect to the SE/30 over ftp. But. . . . It's ONE-WAY down from the SE/30 even if you include username:password in the URL. That makes it essentially useless as a server connection. It's curl or command line ftp for anything above 10.3.9. And. . I have six SE/30s within 4 feet of the chair I'm sitting in. All of them need capacitor replacements on the mother board. I have the tantalum replacements and the tools to do the work but they have still been right where they are for well over a year. -- Applescript syntax is like English spelling: Roughly, though not thoroughly, thought through. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Vintage Macs group.
