Do it for ten years, it will be evened and glide nicely :-)
I have a few of the older ones, too - and some of them have lost their pads.
I am using the Apple ADB Mouse every day, the pad opposite the cable connection
is gone. With the - how may I call it ? - fastening ring, the thing fixing the
ball - orientated 'the other way' it works good on a mouse pad with a cloth
surface. The plastic ones are too cold to my hand anyway.
