I say that as 8 bit computers were on the way out.  The IBM PC was driving 8 
bit computer manufacturers out of business right and left.  The Apple /// was a 
failure, as was the Lisa.  The Mac wasn't an immediate hit, but it wasn't a 
failure either...it had all the right ingredients but wasn't fully baked.  
Apple wisely stuck with it.  As important and successful as the Apple II was, 
it wasn't going to compete with 16 and (later) 32 bit computers.  Remember, 
Commodore had the biggest selling computer of all time AND the Amiga, and still 
went bust.
