Hi all.
I think better than a dishwasher machine are ours hands and a new 1.5 or 2 inch
wide paint brush. I use dish soap directly on the motherboard (previously wet)
and then use the brush to softly rub/clean it. It will clean areas where
dishwasher machine cannot clean well. A lot of foam will be produced. Then just
rinse whole motherboard as it was a dish. Allow water to flow all parts (no
mercy). After that just remove water excess by shaking the motherboard with
your hands. Next I use a hairdryer in high speed and high temperature to dry
it. Special attention on both reset push buttons when drying. If I’m not
impatient, I leave the motherboard for some hours on the air conditioner fan
outside the house, well, here in Vzla. always is summer so the air there is
always hot. Results are in the same day, just hours. I have cleaned in this way
about 30 motherboards (mac, pc and 8-bit computers) and the results are
brilliants. If the motherboard has DIP switch or buzzers I just use adhesive
tape to cover it. I have tested this also on boards with TV out shielded RF
unit (special care will be need here with coils and HF transformers). The first
motherboard I cleaned this way was an Apple IIe that was in a backyard without
the top cover receiving dust and rain for weeks. After see the results, I could
not stop cleaned all of the vintage machines I receive (been working or not).
Hope this help.
Rodolfo
