Hey all: This is my first post and I want to first express my appreciation for this awesome group! I've had a Performa 550 (and a Performa 475 too) just sitting around in the basement and I recently took an interest in using it again. Despite its obsolescence, it's still great for playing the games and programs I grew up with and introducing those awesome games to my nieces and nephew!
Right now, the machine has 20MB of RAM. Of course, it originally had 5MB (4MB soldered + 1MB SIMM), but we had it upgraded with a 16MB stick back in the 90's. I've recently acquired a 32MB SIMM that I want to put in in place of the 16MB. How exactly do I do that? In the interest of being delicate with the old machinery, I'm being extra cautious. I have opened the back and I can see the RAM slot, but it is rather recessed in the computer. Does the logic board assembly slide out or something? In other words, how do I get better access? Second, when I go to install the RAM, do I want to insert it at a 30 degree angle and then straighten it up? Thanks in advance for all your help!
