Hey Guys, I've posted in a few forums, so let me try and be to the point.
I got a Mac Classic in near mint condition for only $35 from a guy on craigslist. He said sometimes it was booting into System 6, and sometimes it would just be the floppy disk with the question mark, hence, there is no OS, or it can't find it. Of course, when I turned it on, I got that every time. I went through the process of ordering the Torx bit, an extender, to open it up. Saw the 40MB stock HD, assumed it wasn't working. Pulled it out and ordered a 2.1gb seagate. Put that in, trying to no avail to get it to work, when someone pointed out to me that it wouldn't work because it's not an Apple branded drive, so HD SC won't recognize it. I also ordered System 7, so that's the HD SC I'm working with. I ordered a passive and active SCSI terminator, not knowing which or if I needed either one of those. I then ordered a 1.2gb internal APPLE BRANDED SCSI. A Quantum Fireball. Again, HD SC doesn't recognize it. I've tried terminators on and off, every jumper setting I could think of...I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to be ID 0. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. This is a 3 week process...I love the challenge of getting the old machines working, that's why I do it, but at some point it just gets ridiculous. I can't find any info on this on the internet, I've searched in great length. Thanks guys.
