Well, I am happy to say that the Internet is working just great! Thanks so much everybody. I really do appreciate all the time and effort and suggestions contributed here.
Now, just because the Internet is working doesn't mean I don't want to stop here. Nooooo... I want to continue my experimentation with these machines, and see what uses I can make of them. To start, I need some help and suggestions. So, in no particular order, can anybody assist with the following: 1) a suitable driver and software package for a Castlewood Orb 2.2GB SCSI drive (system 7.6.1) 2) VPN hosting software (a server) for use in system 7.6.1 3) A downloading app (downloads files from http and FTP) for system 7.6.1 and 7.5.3 and 8 ( can be different apps...) 4) YOUR FAVORITE browser for system 7 and 8 macs 5) how-to for setting up a mac system 7 as a web server and FTP server 6) a copy of DeskTape Pro (or other similar application) that is NOT corrupted. I've found a lot of copies, but all of them unstuff to a corrupted app (size being 0 bytes). If an alternative app is found, that is fine too! 7) Any other cool or interesting apps. Really, aside from all the other stuff, I'm trying to build a collection of awesome apps that I once loved...but now can again play! Screensavers, hacks, games, utilities, apps that make my machine dance hip-hop, music players, everything all welcome. That is the preliminary list of stuff I would Ike to tackle. I am open to suggestions, but what I really want is to see what modern-day uses these machines can offer. Thanks everybody! -Jake On Dec 8, 4:14 pm, "dale-gmail" <[email protected]> wrote: > Jake; > > puzzled.. > AppleTalk and macip are two different ways to connect to the localtalk > network. > AppleTalk is used for file sharing.. > macip is used for browsers, ftp,Telnet, etc. to Ethernet/Internet connections. > > if you want to surf the web from the powerbook orSEthen you need to point > AppleTalk to the printer port on the 6110 (or which ever one you chose that > also has the Ethernet connection),and set up > macip(TCP/IP)addresses on ALL the machines. and then run IpNetRouter to > connect the AppleTalk/localtalk network to the Ethernet network connection. > > Apple did NOT setup/build a software bridge to connect/translate AppleTalk > protocol to Ethernet protocol. > all their software (apple ip gateway and apple localtalk gateway) only > connects the AppleTalk > protocol from/to localtalk from/to Ethernet.
