you dont NEED an emulator if all you want to do is transfer files just a 
modem terminal program on both ends that support file transfers (xmodem 
zmodem etc), I use minicom on linux and zterm on the mac side.

same on network, you should be able to either access file systems either 
way as long as you have the software setup to do it. 

I have a little retro bench setup with a few computers and with my SE its a 
pain in the butt cause I dont have a network card, and even if the floppy 
worked it would mean transferring over network to my LC2 then copy it on 
floppy, cause my se only has a 800k drive and pc's wont write that. My 
other option is yanking the hard drive which is not exactly a quick and 
easy thing to do on a SE and place it in my pc with a scsi card, linux and 
the HFS tools installed to access it ... all of a sudden 19200 baud, while 
slow, when transferring a shrinkit achive or a disk image file is not that 
bad lol.
