I wonder if the inability of 68Ks to turn off the startup RAM tests is a lack-of-software thing, or a lack-of-hardware-support-for-it thing. With a PPC-upgraded 68K, you can turn off the startup RAM test with 8.5 or higher, but the 8.5 Memory control panel doesn't work with an older OS IIRC. Perhaps someone could write an extension to disable the tests?
