Ok, Disk Copy works.

Here's the conundrum... I just picked up a Mac SE with an 800k floppy and a 20mb HD. I swapped out the HD for an 80mb HD I have with system 7.5.5 on it. The SE gets an illegal instruction when I boot it with extensions on, however if I boot with extensions off it boots fine, but it won't allow me to see shared files or drives, nor will it allow me to share a drive. I tried sticking a 1.44mb floppy in but that didn't work unless I put an 800k disk in. Any thoughts about how to get this thing to function so I can see it with my other macs? I think my ultimate goal is to make this a web server.

Thanks

Thomas

You need to use Disk Copy to open the file and then write the contents of the file to floppy disk. You aren't supposed to drag the file onto a floppy. Not only doesn't it fit when you do that, it wouldn't do you any good if it did.

The diskimage includes the Desktop database files and catalog files that tell the OS what's on the disk.

I've got question about disk images. I'm trying to make a Network Access Disk on a floppy. When I download the file from Apple and try to stick it on a 1.4mb disk, it says Not enough room, addition 4k needed. I've reformatted and tried different disks, same results. What's up with that?

As far as I know the Mac, Mac 512, Plus, Classic and Classic II are the only desktop machines you can't buy internal Network Interface Cards for, or don''t have LAN built-in as standard. (Man that was a horrible sentence ;o) ). No other examples come straight to mind at least.

I guess you could set up an apple internet router which is a bridge
between localtalk and ethernet though that is soooooo sloooooow that the
scsi ethernet might actually feel fast......used to run this sw on an LC.
