Volks, Now Dan has me concerned. For what it’s worth: I had painted the seal surfaces on my '70 first with black POR-15 and the RTV was actually applied onto that. The old nail holes got pretty well filled in with that syrupy POR-15. Hope that protects me from unwanted consequences.

I know the factory used the small nails but would a good bead of RTV or seam sealer hold it in place just as well without poking new holes in the newly painted pan? Anyone used something different?
