This may seem obvious so forgive me.  Are you making sure that the opening 
which the camera shoots through (if you have a phone case) is lined up with the 
opening in the stand?

Switching on batch mode didn't work at all. I'm still having the same problems. 
That is, it doesn'w work at all. I never get past placing the device on an 
empty document scanner.
