Hi, The camera should not be looking through that opening in the piece that the phone is sitting on. That would explain why you aren't getting any results.
That opening in the phone holder piece is to make it easier to pull it out of the base. The camera should be above the plastic. If you are using an iPhone 5 or 6, the thin platform that snaps into the phone holder should be in the second set of holes from the top. That way, the phone camera is about an inch or so above the top of the plastic piece. You also want to make sure that the camera is centered left to right. Otherwise, the angle is going to have the camera pointed where there is little or no text. I did a test document where I had a line of text one half inch down from the top and another line of text a half inch above the bottom of the sheet of paper. Once I could scan and get both lines of text, I knew I had it set correctly.
