Hello Alan, You must have your settings setup to require that you select your credit card of choice each time you use Apple Pay.
In my case, even when the phone is locked, at the time of purchase, I simply place my finger on the Touch ID, and hold the phone very near the terminal, and that's all. When the phone is close enough to the terminal, the ApplePay logo appears on the phone's display, then the phone vibrates indicating that the transaction was successful, and that's all. After that, I simply return the phone to it's previous location as the screen turns off, once again. The entire process takes no more than 5 to 8 seconds. It's a beautiful thing. And the best part is that major grocery stores are beginning to accept Apple Pay.
