So, something like a cable box then.

I wonder if it will provide any of the sports channels.

At the moment like big ten, big 12, ESPN and ESPN2 and golf tennis all those
sports channels NFL and MBA and such.

Also, then if connecting it to the TV, I then presume for the sighted folks,
they will actually see the programs?

I did Google it, but well, it really didn't appear to be all that much to
invest into.

I also would love to cut out the big cable company, but from what I read,
you have to pay for Netflix, and I didn't see any of the big news channels
listed anywhere's like fox news and such.

Let us know what it does offer as far as content.
I am very curious. I have the 3rd gen apple tv and wonder if I'd like to
get the new one.

I would look up Apple TV on the internet and see what the advantages of
having one are. I cut cable a long time ago, because many of the channels
that cable offers are things I just don't watch. With Apple TV, I pay for a
NetFlix subscription and a Hulu+ subscription and get a lot of content just
with those too. I enjoy other applications as well, such as Lifetime, A&E,
YouTube, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. There is so much available, on the 2nd
generation alone there are 71 apps, not counting all the content you can
access through the iTunes store, and the new generation is supposed to have
so much more. I am looking forward to Voice Recognition and playing around
with Siri. I would rather have a Roku as Roku offers tons and tons and tons
of channels, but the Roku has no VoiceOver or any other speech which makes
it toally useless for a blind person. Apple TV, with VoiceOver enabled, is a
great set top box for a blind individual. I can't wait to see what all the
new version does offer.

Besides the easy way to look at the menus, can't one just get all those
channels through their normal television sets?

I know this isn't in all states and countries, but some cable companies are
now having accessible ways to use menus through the television set itself.

Got to see it in action when I went to visit family a few weeks ago.

Just trying to see the difference.

I mean also besides the menus, the person can listen to music and do
pictures, but well, streaming pictures through my television set won't work.

Just some curious questions.

Never seen an apple TV in action, and for me, it just seems like just one
more thing to hook up to your television.

It's an honest mistake. When people hear about Apple TV, Google TV, or
Android TV, they picture a big screen television with special features.
While a Google TV needs its own explanation, an Apple TV is a small network
media player that can stream both from your home computers and from online.

Apple TV is a small device ( similar in size and appearance to the Roku Box
or Amazon FireTV) that uses an HDMI cable to connect to your television.

It also uses Wifi (or Ethernet) to connect to your home network and the
internet.

The purpose of Apple TV is to provide users with the ability to stream
media, such as photos, movies and music from iPhones, the iTunes store, or
from other partners like Netflix, HuluPlus, and more recently HBOGO or
HBONow, to enjoy on your TV and home theater audio system.

The Apple TV has VoiceOver on it so blind people are able to navigate the
device and play all provided content. I have had an Apple TV for several
years now and I am able to use it without any sighted assistance with the
use of the VoiceOver feature. The new Apple TV is supposed to be so much
better than the one I have, which is the 2nd generation.

Hello list

Sorry for my ignorance but exactly what is an apple tv and what use and
value does it have for blind users?

Apple Store. I just purchased the 64 gig model for $199.99. Can't wait to
get it!
