Hi Christopher, A TV is not necessarily required for a blind person to take advantage of the Apple TV. Firstly, I doubt there has been a multi-media receiver made in the last 5 years or more that doesn't have multiple HDMI inputs and this includes inexpensive $300 models. Secondly, if you really didn't care about having a TV connected, you could simply connect a Bluetooth speaker or headset or both in order to listen to the content you get via the Apple TV. Lastly, there are the converters you mentioned.
