Yes, you can connect any Bluetooth headset or speaker to an Apple TV just as you can connect it to your iPhone. You can also connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the Apple TV for entering text, for example, if you want to log in to Youtube, Netflix or other apps which require a user name and password and of course you can enter text via the keyboard when you search for something. The new Apple TV (fourth generation) which came out last November also has SIRI and you can tell it, for example, to open an app just like on your iPhone or you can tell it to look for movies with a particular actor etc. Of course when it really comes down to it the Apple TV is definitely meant to be connected to a TV and most of us blind folks still have a TV and some more often than others we may want to watch something together with sighted friends or family.

Hi, Sieghard. I would like to hear more about this bluetooth speaker thing. In pure layman's term, you mean a bluetooth can be connected with Apple TV box and one can have an audio output via these speakers? Thanks! -----Original Message----- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2016 9:11 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Is Apple TV A Hardware? Hi Christopher, A TV is not necessarily required for a blind person to take advantage of the Apple TV. Firstly, I doubt there has been a multi-media receiver made in the last 5 years or more that doesn't have multiple HDMI inputs and this includes inexpensive $300 models. Secondly, if you really didn't care about having a TV connected, you could simply connect a Bluetooth speaker or headset or both in order to listen to the content you get via the Apple TV. Lastly, there are the converters you mentioned. Yes, a TV set is required to use the new Apple TV. On the third generation however, it is possible to connect it to an audio system using some kind of optical cable. Due to the lack of an optical port on the new Apple TV, this isn’t natively supported, however you can no doubt buy some kind of converter adaptor as a workaround. > On 25 Apr 2016, at 21:38, Fazil <fzlmahmoo...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Do I have to have a tv set in order to use it or does it work with my Iphone? > I'm not worried about video, can I have just audio via my Iphone6Plus? > > Thanks! > > -----Original Message----- > From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On > Behalf Of Wayne Merritt > Sent: Monday, April 25, 2016 12:36 PM > To: viphone@googlegroups.com > Subject: Re: Is Apple TV A Hardware? > > I think it is a set top box, like a Cable box, but which allows you to access > lots of media content through Apple or other sources. > > Wayne > > On 4/25/16, Fazil <fzlmahmoo...@gmail.com> wrote: >> Hi, list. >> >> Please bear with my ignorance, I hear a lot about Apple TV, is Apple >> TV an app or a hardware? >> >> Thanks! >> >> >> >> -- >> The following information is important for all members of the V >> iPhone list. >> >> If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, >> or if you feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact >> the owners or moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself. >> >> Your V iPhone list moderator is Mark Taylor and your owner is Cara >> Quinn - you can reach Cara at caraqu...@caraquinn.com >> >> The archives for this list can be searched at: >> http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/ >> --- >> You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google >> Groups "VIPhone" group. >> To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, >> send an email to viphone+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. >> To post to this group, send email to viphone@googlegroups.com. >> Visit this group at https://groups.google.com/group/viphone. >> For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. >> > > > -- > Follow me on Twitter at: > www.twitter.com/wcmerritt > My website: > www.wayneism.com > My book list: > www.wayneism.com/books.php > > -- > The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. > > If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, or if > you feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact the owners or > moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself. > > Your V iPhone list moderator is Mark Taylor and your owner is Cara > Quinn - you can reach Cara at caraqu...@caraquinn.com > > The archives for this list can be searched at: > http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/ > --- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "VIPhone" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to viphone+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > To post to this group, send email to viphone@googlegroups.com. > Visit this group at https://groups.google.com/group/viphone. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. > > -- > The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
