Hi. I like and recommend KNFB Reader because of its simple user interface and,
with proper lighting conditions, the quality of its scanning results. Based on
what I've read on the list over the past several years and what I've heard from
my students, I'd recommend avoiding the free OCR apps; you get what you pay
for. That said, the best low-cost OCR app that I've run across and still use
when I'm not necessarily looking for precision scanning is the Text Grabber
app. I've often seen it in the app store on sale for only two or three dollars,
and at at that price or even its standard price, its bang-for-the-buck factor
is high. I've introduced a number of students who can't afford KNFB Reader to
Text Grabber and have yet to hear anyone complain about it. Hope this helps.
