Thank you, Dameshe and Scott, for weighing in.  I am going to get
sighted help tomorrow and do some more experimenting.  Dameshe, from a
character by character search of lines containing links, it certainly
appears that any line containing a link carries other information
besides the name of the link, including "greater than" signs
signifying the presence of a link.  I'll be back with an update soon.
