Thanks for that.  Yes, I have switched off the automatic updates for apps, 
rather doing that manually.

any apps, I remind you that we never know when it is time to find new versions 
of apps being updated automatically. if it happens on air, that is it.

  I never expect that there are versions that could be upgraded automatically 
as after ios 9.2 and I got puzzled how all upgrading of any apps being 
automatically done.

      Hello Jan,

      It sounds to me like you have done all that you could do to try to get

      the phone updated. Just to confirm, does your phone state that it is

      connected to WiFI in the status bar at the top of the screen after

      resetting network settings? Are you able to launch and browse the

      Internet with Safari? You might want to try disabling cellular data

      and seeing if you could do the update this way. That way you are sure

      that WiFi is connected. You can turn off cellular data in

      settings/cellular.

      If you still receive the same message, you will  have to reset the

      phone as new again to get it to update to iOS10.1.

this,

        so all those bases are covered.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
