Terri,
If you are using the same Apple ID on the Apple TV that you use with
your iPhone or other iOS device, you can go into the App Store on the
TV and find the purchased section. Here you will find a list of all of
the apps which are TV compatible that you have downloaded to your
other devices. This is an easy way to see a list of what works since
you're looking at apps you already have and may be more comfortable
with. If I have the location of this list wrong I'm sure someone will
correct.

I got an Apple TV in the summer and wondered why I waited so long to
get one as well. I love playing music on it and watching videos and
shows from YouTube and CBS All Access. Note that if you have accounts
from YouTube, Netflix or Hulu, and bring up those apps on the TV and
try to sign in, you will likely be prompted to visit a certain web
page in order to activate the TV on your account. Once you visit the
site, you may be prompted to enter a code. I don't recall if you enter
the code on the iOS device or on the TV. Either way, once you enter
the code and hit submit, you will be able to access your account and
all of the regular features of the app with the TV.

Finally, you can do a voice search with Siri and say, "Search the App
Store for (name of app)." This may help you find apps to download
initially.

Good luck,
Wayne
