I know this is the often suggested trouble shooting step, but have you rebooted your phone by holding down the power and home buttons together for about 6 or 8 seconds? If you have earphones in, you will hear a click as it loses connection. Then it can take a couple of minutes before it comes back to life.
And, as always, clear out the app switcher first.
