No, the Schlage Sense replaces your existing deadbolt.
After installation you have a keypad outside and on the inside there is a small
box (maybe a bit larger than an iPhone and of course thicker which holds the 4
AA batteries which operate the motor and house the electronics.
You can open it via the app, via SIRI, program it (I think) to open when your
phone is right there (you might have to touch it) or you can also simply use
whichever passcode you set up and type it into the keypad. Of course if that is
all you want you could simply buy a Schlage or other electronic lock which is
not a WiFi connected lock, but has the keypad.
If you want something which install over top of your existing deadbolt then I
think the August Smartlocks do that. If you want one which can be remotely
controlled via WiFi you need to buy one which comes with a bridge which plugs
into your router and that one I think is also $299 here in Canada and I just
saw they have a new "August Pro" lock for $349 Canadian, not sure how exactly
it differs from the regular one.
I have had good luck with other Schlage electronic locks so probably will try
that one over the August. I also like the fact it has built-in WiFi and does
not need any bridge and the installation for me is not an issue, since removing
a deadbolt and installing these locks is pretty straight forward.

Sieghard

Hi, I don't understand how the lock would work. Can you tell me if you can
use the existing door lock? I have a front door that has a lock and would be
interested in using the Iphone to make sure it is locked. Any explanation
would be greatly appreciated. Andy and Shubert

We have the schlage home kit lock, and I love it. It is very veery accessible
with VO. You can set the codes for people, add, delete, and so forth.
