Hi

Here is how to initiate a conversation on Facebook with one of your friends.

On the bottom of the screen, there are tabs for Newsfeed, Watch i.e. videos,
Requests, Market Place, Notifications and More. Double tap on the more button.
This will bring you to your personal Home page.

Double tap on the friends button. Just swipe right going down the page until
you hear friends. Then select the friend you want to write something on their
wall. Double tap the friend’s name and it will take you to their personal home
page. Swiping left to right going down the page, you will come to a field that
will read as “write something on this page or post on their wall. Double tap
that field and the keyboard pops up and you can type the message and then click
or double tap post when you are done. If there is no field read aloud to write
something, it is usually because that friend has their privacy settings set so
that no one can write on their wall.

There is a work around for this. You can write on your wall and tag that
person in the post or simply type their name in the field. For instance, you
can double tap at the top of your newsfeed where it says check in or write
something. Then begin typing Mary Smith how about those Steelers (lol). Then
tap post. Rather double tap post.

One thing I did not mention in my previous email is opening posts that contain
more than one name. I sometimes get a post of a video and it reads as an
example, Mary Smith and John Brown shared a video. Simply one finger double
tap does not open the post. I figured out that I had to double tap and hold on
the second tap in order to open the post so I could view the video. It
sometimes takes a couple of tries to get it to open.

If you have any more questions, I am happy to answer if I am able.

Kathy

Great tip about reading text in a picture, I had always asumed this was
something we just couldn't read.

The main thing i don't know about facebook is how to initiate a conversation
with someone. Once a conversation has started I can reply or like but can't
start the conversation so instructions on how to do that would be great.

Thanks Linda

Hi

I use Facebook on my phone all the time so I will try my best to describe some
tips and gestures to you through writing.

First, you simply one finger double tap to open a post where you can view the
like button, comment, and share button. You can also view any comments people
made.

Second, if you do not want to view the post, you can double tap with two
fingerts to bring up a menu of like, react, comment, share, and more. The more
button provides other options such as saving the post, unfollowing a post,
hiding a post etc. If you just want to react to a post, single tap with one
finger on the react choice and another menu pops up with like, love, wow, haha,
sad, and angry. Single finger double tap on the emotion you want to select.

Pictures with text in the image are not readable with voice over. However, I
heard this tip the other day when listening to one of the Tech talk podcasts on
accessible Worl. You open the post and then put the focus on the picture and
then three finger single tap and a description of the picture and some or most
or all of the text is read. You must be running the most current version of
IOS for this to work.

Sharing a post is simple. You can choose to share now with your friends, write
a message along with the post, send in messenger or copy the link. When
writing a post, a new page opens with the post and there is a field in that
page to compose a message along with the post. It will say “write something”
when the focus is on that field. Double tap and a keyboard pops up. To tag
someone, you can do it in two different ways. One is to type the person’s name
into that field. The easier way is to select the option that reads add more to
your post and you will get more options such as tag a friend, feelings/emotions
i.e. I am feeling happy or blessed or frustrated etc. If you choose tag a
friend, a list of your friends pops up and you select a friend you want to tag
by simply one finger double tap their name and then select the done button in
the upper right had corner. Then one finger double tap the post button at the
top.

There is more things you can do but these are the basic and will get you
started. I signed up for Facebook about nine years ago but recently began
using it on my phone because the website got so complicated with things popping
up and interfering with my screen reader on the computer that I just gave up
with it. Now that I have it on my phone, I am on it every day. So much
easier.

So I got the Facebook app on my phone. Anyone got tips and tricks for how to
get around on this app, how to move between posts, read all the comments on
something, etc. etc. etc.? I use the mobile app on my desktop computer because
it is less cluttered than the “big” Facebook site, , but this looks different.

Thanks.

Susie
