Hello Susie, I cannot speak to downloading books on a computer from Audible as I have never done so.
However, when one downloads a title in iOS 12, on the latest version of the Audible app, I believe it does, in fact, begin playback although I’m not certain. The last time I downloaded a book on my phone, it was 4:00am and I was half asleep. (smile). What I can tell you is that, from my experience, full title playback is not available until the book has completely downloaded to the device. Which takes me to my next point, With the My Library tab selected, make certain that you select the Device tab, located near the top right of the display, instead of the Cloud tab, located near the upper left. Then, select a title to be played and you should be good to go. I’ve been an Audible subscriber for a decade now and love it. So of course I put the Audible app on my phone. Now when I try to download a book from Audible to the computer, I get a page wanting me to download the app (which I already have) and install Audible Manager (which I have.) No download of book to computer begins, as it has before. So then I thought, well, I’ll put the book on the phone. But once you hit the button that starts the download, the book starts to play. Where are the controls to make the speech speed up, control the volume, change chapters, and all that happy stuff? And am I correct that the book continues to download from some server somewhere as it plays? The only way I could stop the playback was to cancel the download. I tapped and swiped all over the screen during the playback to find controls, and all I got was other phone stuff. Is there someplace where there are commands for the Audible app? Have I now forever lost the ability to download to the computer if I so choose? If this is too far off-topic, humble apologies, and maybe somebody can contact me off-list: sstagebe...@gmail.com Thanks.
