Possibly it’s come to that point since a friend of mine looked at it. He thought it was more suitable for school or classroom use rather than for individuals. Refresh was slow, and the dots didn’t always refresh equally.

Yes it can be used as a stand alone notetaker. The interesting part of this function is there is two modes for the Brailliant A. Bluetooth mode - this is when the device is connected to the iPhone or iPad. This will allow you to use the Braille display to control every aspect of the I Device. So you could use the iDevice and another app for note taking tasks. B. Offline mode - This allows you to use the device as a stand alone notetaker.
