My daughter-in-law told me back when I had a 4S that I never really learned to use, that if I ever needed her to tell me if colors went together or something, we could use Face Time. Also, she said if Jim was gone, and I dropped something, call her, and we could see if she could help me find it. I thought that was pretty good for a lay person.

I think the person or persons who came up with the idea are very smart and I look forward to what Aira may be in 5 or 8 years. In the meantime I think that if I talk to a Be My Eyes helper who uses visual references then it is also up to me to explain in a calm, rational and friendly way that such directions don't work so well for a blind person. I go through this many times when I call tech support. Recently I called Synology support to get some help configuration my NAS at my store and even though I had told the agent at the beginning that I was blind he kept on referring to "look at the top left corner for this and this button" or stuff like that and I had to finally interrupt him and after really getting his attention explain to him that such directions meant nothing to me. But unless a support agent has dealt with blind people before or was specifically trained how should he or she know. People often just can't visualize so to speak how Jaws or NVDA work and how we do things. I usually tell them to just tell me if what I am looking for is a link or a button and what it is called and that often produces much better results. -----Original Message----- From: viphone@googlegroups.com <viphone@googlegroups.com> On Behalf Of Andy Baracco Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2019 1:20 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Aira I agree! Considering that most blind people are unemployed, and that the average income of blind folks is well below that of those who are not blind, aiRa will only be feasible for a minority of blind people, thus making services like Be My Eyes, and platforms like MS Seeing AI a welcome alternative. You get what you pay for... And this isn't meant to denigrate BeMyEyes or the people who volunteer through the service, but keep in mind you're talking about well intentioned people who are still just volunteers at the end of the day. A volunteer said, ”over there”. That isn’t very helpful to a blind person. I do know of 2 stores who offer “Aira” for free: Wallgreens and Wegmanns. This is done by using the app on your iPhone.
