You can use it with Apple Pay at places that take it .. If they don't take it then you use the physical card. You have access to the card number, expiration date, and CVN via the wallet, so you can use it just like any other credit card.
As for places in the US that take Apple Pay... I think target takes it now as well. They were resistant for a long time.
