Sieghard,
I very much appreciate your comments and I'm a firm believer in maintaining an open mind about things since that puts one in the best position for continued learning. I admit to being more than a bit of a dinosaur as I still have an old mechanical keyboard that came with an IBM PC AT computer and I much prefer typing on it. I think it is probably better made than a Sherman tank and since it's approaching its 35th year, its longevity would seem to support that. I'll keep the Logitech K780 in mind if I ever consider a Bluetooth keyboard in the future. Hi Alan, I agree that when I am moving around that I also don’t usually bring a Bluetooth keyboard. If I travel for more than say 3 or so days I usually bring it because while I u Flicktype, I am still way faster typing on a Bluetooth keyboard. Comparing a foldable Bluetooth keyboard with a Logitech K780 is like comparing Apple and Oranges, they are not the same and a keyboard like the K780 is just about as good a typing experience as you can get except maybe on a really good mechanical keyboard. Anyhow, I just mentioned it because what you described with your PC and this app is done at home and not while out and about and here something like the K780 really shines because it can be your primary computer keyboard but with the added functionality of easily and virtually instantly connecting to your iPhone. Hi Sieghard, Thanks for your suggestion but I'm not a fan of Bluetooth keyboards. I bought a foldable Verbatim one back when I first got my iPhone and may have turned it on twice since getting it. I decided I'd rather get familiar with the on screen keyboard so I wouldn't have to lug another device around with me. I use FlickType for the large majority of my on screen keyboard input but I like having the ability to input with my computer keyboard when keying large amounts of data or many special characters. Or it's especially handy when I've already got the info in my Ditto clipboard manager and can easily paste it into the KeyWi website for porting over to my iPhone. Hi Alan, If you are strictly using this method to compose new messages and so on, wouldn’t it be even easier to use a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone? I have a Logitech K780 which supports up to 3 devices. I use this keyboard as my main keyboard at home since I rarely sit in front of my laptop and if I want to write a longer text message on the iPhone I only have to press FN + F2 and in about 1 second I am connected to my phone where I type what I want to type, then when it’s time to go back to the PC I press F1 (no need for FN when switching back from the iPhone) and a second later I am again connected to my PC where I left off. I can see where an app like you describe could come in handy if you need to copy and paste larger amounts of text from a PC to use on the iPhone, but for simple text entry I feel a Bluetooth keyboard is the way to go. You can, by the way, copy stuff to the Windows clipboard and paste that content on the iPhone if you use the Microsoft keyboard and sign in with a Microsoft Id on your PC as well as using that keyboard. It is very much like copying and pasting between a MAC and an iOS device, but you do need to use the Microsoft third party keyboard. Adam, I use the KeyWi Keyboard by Bitwise Software SL for inputting data on my computer and then transferring it to my iPhone 8 for easy placement there. The app currently sells for $.99. Here is how I use it. Say I'm composing a text containing several special characters that are much easier to input on a computer keyboard, such as a URL for a website address. I'll go to the Messages text box, switch the keyboard from the standard on-screen keyboard to the KeyWi keyboard, open the applicable KeyWi website in my computer browser, and execute the Write and Send option on that website. A text box opens on the website where I input everything using my computer keyboard after which I execute the Send to device button and then that typed text appears in my Messages text box ready to send. It is very easy to use and well worth the $1 cost in my opinion. I would strongly urge you to bookmark in your browser the KeyWi website as that makes it much easier to open when using the KeyWi keyboard later. Good luck and post back with more questions. Hi all, does anyone know of an app where I can paste text and it appears in my iOS clipboard? There have been a few of these around where you create an account, sign in on both pc and iOS then you can copy text on pc and it appears on iOS. I can email to myself then copy but that seems fiddly and doesn't always work.
