Alan: If you have previously contacted that account, don't even press the compose button. Open the messages tab and scroll through the list of conversations. When you open a conversation you'll find an interface that looks very similar to any chat service. Just tap the bottom of the screen, abobe the tabs to find the text box to send a new message. Also, you can find a specific username from the search tab and dm him from is profile.
