Dido here, Laury.

I certainly do not want to have good stuff at someone else's suffering, but I do not have the wherewithal to research everything I buy to see if that is the case.

I cannot speak for others but my comment was in no way to be taken to mean that I think It's ok for anyone to work in deplorable conditions.

Most of what we use is made in other countries and we have no control over that. In my opinion it is crazy to get rid of my iPhone because it may have been manufactured in China and buy an android phone that too could have been manufactured in another country. Not all items made in other countries means that the workers are or have been mistreated.

I don't think anyone should work in conditions where they are untreated or not being paid for the work that they do.

I cannot for the life of me imagine saying I don’t care where my device is made as long as it makes my life easier. I just..I can’t imagine such blatant disregard for another human being’s plight. makes me sick.

Yes, it absolutely matters where products are made and it matters even more what sort of oversight and accountability is in place. You mentioned clothing and here it maybe matters even more than with higher-end technology devices where a certain amount of skilled labour is required, but even here certain items like headsets, speakers and other mass-produced items we here in the west are buying and discarding whenever we don't like them any more or see something we like better affect the quality of life of the people in the countries where they are made. We all want cheap, cheap and, even better, cheaper, big corporations like Walmart, Target and others are happy to supply all this cheap stuff and they are looking where they can make it cheapest; I mean, who cares if the cool shirt was made by an 8-year old who toils in a sweat shop for 12 hours a day and gets paid 25 cents a day for the effort.
