Well, for me, when I select Bard web site, it has the login screen with my credentials already there, so when I hit login, it logs me in. I just added a book to my wish list and downloaded it with no issues. The login screen is odd, but it isn't stopping me from using it. I know they did some maintenance recently, so I will send a note to them, and I suggest you and your friend do as well.
