Hello All,

Okay, I received a reply from Audible this morning that is of absolutely no
help. According to them, the latest version of the app will only work with iOS
14 or later.

Yes, as we have discovered, the app does show up in the app store of iOS13.
And, when you read the description of the app, it clearly states that the app
is compatible with iOS 11 or higher.

I will now paste in part of the message I received from Audible.

[BEGIN MESSAGE]:
Hello Mark,

The current version of the Audible app for iOS is 3.54 and requires iOS version
14 or higher, or watchOS 7 or later. Users on older OS versions will not see
this update available in the App Store.

Thank you for contacting Audible!

The current version of the Audible for iOS (v3.54) requires an OS version of 14
or higher, or a watchOS of 7 or later. As I understand from the information
provided your iOS device is currently running iOS 13.7.

While an older version of the Audible for iOS app will remain available to you
in the App Store, to see any further updated versions, you will need to update
your device to iOS 14. Please also keep in mind that while we will continue to
support you with troubleshooting steps, new features and fixes may not be
available to you and any troubleshooting of older app versions may be limited.

Thank you again for your continued patience. Stay safe.
[END MESSAGE]:

So, after receiving this message I immediately contacted iTunes support and
spoke, at length with a senior advisor. She assures me that they only have 1
(one) version of the app on the store and that the app is the latest version,
only.

I asked her what would happen if a person running iOS 13.7 attempted to
download the Audible app, for the very first time.  That seemed to stump her;
she said that she did not know; that a device, downloading the app fir the very
first time, may, in fact, have access to the earlier version of the app.
Regardless, it does not apply to me because they cannot remove the app from my
list of purchases.

So, a few minutes ago, just as an afterthought, I searched the web for a 32-bit
version of the latest versions of iTunes for Windows. You may recall that a
while back, when I searched, I could not find any Apple supported version of
iTunes for Windows 7 or 8, 32-bit.

Well, believe it or not, as of December 7, 2020, they have made a 32-bit of
iTunes 12.10.11.2 available for download. I was stunned.

Later this weekend, I will attempt to install this version of iTunes onto my PC
and, if successful, then I will update my beloved 8 Plus to iOS 14.

Wish me luck.

Mark

Subject: RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

Hello Everyone,

First, let me thank all of you for the wonderful feedback on this issue.

Rather than cluttering up the list by replying to each post, individually, I
will write a general reply here:

1.
This audible problem appears to happen with versions of iOS earlier than 14.x

2.
The info in the app store clearly states that the latest release, v3.54 should
work with all versions of iOS 11 or higher.

3.
The issue is not the download process but the installation process.

4.
I was running the previous build of the app but got annoyed at the fact that
the App Store badge kept stating that 1 new update was available. This is why
I deleted the previous version of Audible in an attempt to install a fresh
copy. Obviously this did not work; so now I don't have the app on my phone.

5.
As much as it shames me, all of my Windows computers are obsolete; as such, I
cannot download the latest version of iTunes. Were I to update the OS on my
phone to iOS 14.x, then I would no longer be able to use my current version of
iTunes for Windows in order to sync data. I have just been delaying the
inevitable, said inevitability being that I must buy a new Windows computer so
I can install the latest version of iTunes. Another option is that I can
switch my iTunes Library to my Mac, an option in a pinch but one I would prefer
to avoid. There is really not a good reason to avoid using my Mac for my
primary phone but, deep down, I'm a Windows guy, I guess (smile).

6.
I am going to buy whatever version of iPhone is next released, regardless of
Touch ID. So, at that time, I will take the plunge and add a new Windows
computer to the team so I can have every available option for the new phone.

7.
I have posted feedback about this problem in the App Store.

8.
I have contacted Audible support and they have created a trouble ticket and
assure me that the problem should be resolved in a few days.

9.
I also contacted Audible via Twitter. They actually told me that I could
download the previous version of the app from the App Store but, of course,
they were mistaken; that kind of rollback is only available on Android.

Okay, I think that about does it.

Again, thank you all for contributing to this thread.

Mark

Subject: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

Hello Everyone,

Okay, everything was fine with the Audible app on my iPhone 8 running 13.x
until I attempted to install the update, released 2 days ago.

Each time I tried to update, it failed. So, I deleted my currently installed
version with the intention of installing a fresh copy of the app.

You guessed it, now the app will not install.

If the app was not compatible with my current version of iOS, then it should
not show in my updates list.

This is just a heads-up for everyone.
