That’s my experience too. Since I want Voiceover to work, I have hands free turned on and just make sure I don’t say the wake word while the app is open. Amazon has had definite issues with their apps not working as expected for Voiceover users. With the recent update to the Amazon Music app, I had to go into settings and turn off microphone access for that app to get Voiceover working correctly. Apparently, VoiceOver users need to be prepared for an ongoing trial and error process where certain Amazon apps are concerned. After doing this, the next time you open the Alexa app, Voiceover should again be working at the correct volume level. At least it did for me after I did this.
