You don't need sighted help, just as with Touch Id you are guided as to what you should do. Keep in mind that you can always delete your Face Id and set it up again, also a good idea at least for setup to be in a reasonably well lighted room. Once Face Id is set up it works in total darkness because it uses IR light to scan your face and light is not required.
