Hello Terri, Even though I see that other listers have already made suggestions, I would like to say something. Indeed, what you’re looking for is called gaming in the language-learning strategies of recent theoretical accounts. On the other hand, decontextualized memorization and traditional approaches on language learning are not sufficiently enough effective to reach competence in any given spoken language. That only works for archeologists or linguists researching on dead languages.
My suggestion is trying a holistic approach in which you can carry out different activities related to the four basic skills in any given language. Gaming is pretty good, but it is just a small part of the learning process. Learning a language as an adult is a complex process that requires getting out of one’s comfort zone. However, this doesn’t mean that it should be boring or nerve-wracking. In short, I would suggest not letting false expectations entice you. If so, I do apologize. I know I saw similar questions somewhere. Anyway, I am looking for an accessible App, to help me possibly learn a new language. I am most interested in learning Chinese, Spanish, and maybe one other as well. I don't know how possible any of this is. But I just really want to try it, rather or not it works out. I want an App where the learning is done through interaction. Not just studying, or trying to do a lot of memorizing. Also, I don't mind purchasing an App. Or paying to learn the languages. But I would like the App to be quite accessible, and easy to use, if possible. What do you all think? Does what I am looking for, even exist?
