You cannot use touch ID with your iPhone. Your iPhone supports face ID and
entering your passcode.

Touch ID needs to be built into the device that you would like to use it on.
It needs to be billed into the power button. Also the app that you want to use
touch ID with needs to support touch ID.

hi, everyone, this might be a silly question, but I was wondering if there was

You have to remember that just as you described, the passcode is required when
you turn your phone off and back on. Each time you restart the phone you have
to enter your passcode, the same goes if you try Touch I d and after a certain
number of attempts it doesn't recognize your fingerprint, it will then ask for
the passcode to authenticate and unlock the phone.
I don't know if you turn your phone often, but really you shouldn't. iPhones
are designed to be on all the time and the don't have to be shut down at all.
From time to time you may end up having to turn it off and back on if you have
strange issues or of course there could be a time when you simply run out of
battery and the phone turns itself off, but I literally go weeks and sometimes
months without turning my phone off and back on and the only time I have to put
in my passcode is when for some reason Face Id isn't working a few times one
attempt after another (same goes for Touch Id) or for some other strange
reason. But typically I again often go days without having to enter my passcode
manually.

It's been asking for the Pass Code for months now.

When I power up, it says Pass Code is required when phone starts up. My memory
is that it started asking for it after I had set use Touch ID on the App Store
instead of Apple ID. I turn on the phone much more than I get apps and had
tried to change it to must use Apple ID on App Store in hopes of not being
asked for the Pass Code to turn on the phone, but I still had to use the pass
code. I THINK I could use Touch ID the other day when I installed a free app
from the App Store and did not have to type my Apple ID but it wasn't a good
day and my memory may not be correct.

I don't want to get rid of the Pass Code entirely; having it helped with some
mishap I had. I just would prefer not to have to type it in every time I use
the phone.

Subject: Can I Use Touch ID Instead of Pass Code

Good Evening:

The recent Face ID hit or miss thread caught my interest since, like the
original poster, I have an iPhone SE 2020 and like Touch ID.

The SE2020 is my first smart phone and is my back up with my land line being
my primary phone. I have the cell powered off most of the time and might power
it on for texting or to check the weather app etc. I have Apple ID, Touch ID,
and Pass Code set up and have purchased an app on the App Store. The way
things are set up, I have to type in my pass code when I power up. I can
usually do it correctly the first or second time so typing it isn't the
problem; I'd prefer to use Touch Id instead if possible. I am not in a work or
school situation and my house does not resemble Grand Central Station and I do
not have a lot of personal information on the cell.

The original post did say locked and not powered off. When I first got the
cell and was trying to follow along with a tutorial, the phone kept saying
locked what sounded every 30 seconds and locked became a "dirty"

word and I never investigated what it was good for. I turned lock to never.
I'm using the phone a little more now and would be willing to change that if
someone could explain why it would be good when I use the phone so little. I'd
greatly appreciate knowing if I can keep the pass code for when I needed it for
other things and could use Touch ID when powering on.

  Thanks,

Margaret

Hi all,

Subject pretty much says it all. I just bought an iPhone 13 mini and have set
up Face ID with no difficulty; however, it seems that it'll work two or three
times and then will require me to use my pass code to unlock my phone. I am
getting very tempted to put my SIM card back in my SE 20 lol. It's much easier
to just reach over and unlock it with my finger than to pick up my mini and
hope I can get it to unlock without having to type in my pass code. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.
