Mark, you were half way there. You did a double tap and hold which is what you
should do. The second part of that is lift up your fingers up and just double
tap the app or apps you want to remove from the switcher.

  Subject: App Switcher confusion

Hi. Thanks to all who've been so helpful thus far as I fall in love with my
new Ipad. So, I don't understand App Switcher.

I have a few apps in App Switcher which appear to be running in the
background, such as Music, which don't need to be there. I was told to double
tap and hold on one of these; when I do, it says "Editing app." I must be
missing a step at this point, because if I dismiss App Switcher and re-launch
it, the app is still there. So, what's the step I'm missing here?

Conversely, sometimes, if I launch an app from the home screen, it does *NOT*
appear in App Switcher, even though I want it to.

Thus the subject line. Thanks for clarification. *bow*
