One of the DAISY readers for the blind came out with an upgrade recently that included a wifi radio, but to my knowledge, that's the only one so far. It isn't the player I have, so I can't recall which one it is.

All that needs to be synced between these two devices is a tiny amount of data with the off set to where you were when you stopped reading the book. This data could be kept on an SD card. I could take the SD card out of my Booksense, pop it into my Android phone, hit a button in the NLS app and then move the SD card back into my Booksense. Of course, the NLS app and the Booksense would have to know a bit, but there's no reason this couldn't be done.

Alternatively, you could attach your phone to your PC through USB, transfer the bit of data you need and then plug your DAISY reader into your PC. You may be able to use some service in iTunes to accomplish this with your iPhone.

Many devices sync data over bluetooth, NFC or wifi without going to the internet or the cloud. There's no reason a smart phone and a DAISY reader couldn't do this. Seems like I remember a commercial where people could bump their Galaxies together to transfer contact information, and my sons used to exchange music between their Zunes.

Hi,

I don't see how an SD card or, bluetooth connection would matter unless, your
saying someone tethers their reader to a device that does have internet
connectivity like a smartphone tablet or computer.

BTW, by internet connectivity, I wasn't necessarily speaking of a cellular
radio but, wifi. Are you saying many of these devices have WIFI? Book sense,
stream, etc?

This could be done without an internet connection. Many of these devices
support SD cards, USB connections and bluetooth. They're also now starting to
come out with wifi connections.

Hi,

This would require whatever device you use at home have an internet connection.
I don't own a stream or, any other type of blind centric reader except the
actual NLS player so, do these devices often have the ability to connect to the
internet?

I think it's a fair question though. Not everybody who gets NLS Talking Books
has a smart phone and they would like to have some sense of how popular it
would be. Personally, I'd just like to have the option. Now if there were a
way in which you could start reading an NLS book on your iPhone, get home and
pickup where you left off on your reading device. They keep saying more
features will be added to the Victor Reader Stream 2. Be cool if they could
manage that.

Similarly, I just signed on to NLS BARD and encountered the same two
questions.

When I logged onto my library's bard site today, there was a survey question
about whether I would use the app, if it were available, and which version, IOS
or Android, I would use. I post this, in hopes that it is a national survey,
not just from my library. If you tend not to log onto bard often, log onto it
and, if the question is there, hopefully answer it yes.
