Hi, actually this isn't a Sendero thing, but an Apple thing. Over the last year, many apps have switched to this model where you get the app, which might be an ad version, or a disabled version. Then you do in-app purchased to unlock things. Dice World is an example. You just get one app, then if you want to add things to it, like get rid of ads, you either play and win many games, or you do an in-app purchase and get rid of them. Sendero's Seeing App is the same thing in that you get the free app, then depending on which subscription you want, you do an in-app purchase. Not misleading at all. So, let's stop harping about how evil Sendero supposedly is.

You are incorrect assuming that I bought a subscription. I downloaded
the app and when I found out how outrageous and costly it was, i
certainly did not buy a subscription. I immediately went to the rating
portion and told them how I feel. The app has been deleted from my
phone. By the way, the apps you refer to are a one time fee. I've had
my Navigon for 2 years and have only paid the cost of the app. I works
just fine. A few bucks every now and then to upgrade the maps is
reasonable, but certainly the price they want for a yearly sub is
highway robbery. I just don't have that kind of money anyway, they
wouldn't get it if I did and there are other good alternatives.
Actually, I'll stay with my Breeze and support a company that is not
blatantly greedy. I'm glad you find the app to be a good one because I
would hate for someone to spend that kind of money and not like it.

Hi Mary Anne,

Let me ask you one question: If you feel this way, why did you even
download
and buy the one-year subscription to start with? It's not like Sendero
forced you to do so.

You could go and pay $59 for Navigon North America, then $15 or
whatever it
is for BlindSquare for a total of $75 and have a workable solution even
though it wouldn't be as good as the Seeing Eye app. This totally
reminds me
about the uproar some people felt when Sendero dared to charge $5 for
their
LookAround app a few years ago, the outrage some people felt then I
think
was downright ridiculous and while $70 is more than $5, like I said,
don't
buy it if you don't want it.

Take care,

I think it's a disgrace and a total rip off. Not even a trial? Even
so, it's
too expensive and nothing but outright greediness. I've already
written this
as a rating for the app, adding that it's nothing less than a case of
total
greed, greed, greed, taking advantage of blind people and stealing
money out
of their pockets. Sixty-nine bucks a year, that is outrageous! What a
cocky
attitude for Sendero to adopt. who do they think they are anyway? I
couldn't
even rate it zero stars and I begrudgingly gave them one just to
speak my
mind.

Subject: The Seeing Eye app, a quick test.

Hi all, I took the Seeing Eye GPS app for a quick walk around my
neighborhood to see how well it performed. I walked about one mile,
and took a different route back. It worked well, although like most
GPS apps it seemed to use a lot of battery, over twenty percent in the
one mile walk.
The interface of the app is simple and easy to understand. Entering
an address is made easy because the state and city you are in are
already entered, so only the address number and street need to be
entered. If you are going to another city, however, you will need to
change that field. I started by searching for a point of intrest and
starting a route. The app uses voice over for most of the
announcements, but does have another voice that chimes in
occasionally. The directions were clear and given with ample lead
time. As I approached intersections it would announce the street name
and the intersection type, I. E. Fore way, and the street direction.
Also, as I walked the app announced points of intrest as I passed by.
On the way back, I tried the route to home option, which opened a
drop down menu with various options including one that is poorly
labeled. My wife told me it said multi modal, which voice over didn't
understand, so I relabeled this button multi mode.
Over all I think this is a great start, but there are a few things
I'd like to see in the future. I'd like to see the ability to walk a
virtual route, as I was able to do with my human ware Trekker..
After taxes the one year subscription cost over seventy five dollars.
It sounds like a lot, but considering my old Trekker was fifteen
hundred dollars seven years ago, it doesn't seem too expensive.
If you figure it out, it comes to about twenty one cents a day for
the one year subscription. And only about thirteen cents a day with
the three year subscription, it seems reasonable to me.
