Maybe it's the smaller sign? "Smaller than" sign and the number 3 ? This
combination stands for "heart". For example typing < and 3 (next to each
other and without a space inbetween) generates a heart symbol, for example
while typing on Facebook etc.

It's possibly a keyboard emoticon. Some people choose to use number, letter,
punctuation marks and other symbol combinations to make facial emotoicons,
rather than use an actual face with the implied expression. Some find the
keyboard strokes for emotoicons easier and faster when typing a message.
It's a personal preference. I prefer to use actual facial emotoicons to get
my feelings across to someone.

Hi all,
A friend of mine occasionally gets a greater than sign followed by a number
3 in his messages. I have never had that happen myself yet. Does anyone
know what this refers to?
