The iPod Fifth Gen is the iPod Touch Fifth Gen. If you are looking to buy an iPod Touch, do yourself a favour and do not buy a Fourth Gen because the Fifth Gen which was released last October is leagues above the Fourth Gen: Much better camera much faster processor Dual band WiFi it has SIRI It has the new Lightning connecto It has the larger 4 inch screen yet it is super thin and light. Lastly, and very importantly, it is the only iPod Touch which you can upgrade to iOS 7 when it is released in September. Yes, you can read text and PDF files although you may require some apps to do so, some of which are free and some of which are not. Dropbox and iBooks are free and you can read text files in Dropbox and PDF files you can read in Dropbox or iBooks. There are also apps like Voice Dream Reader which can read text files, PDF files, Word documents and many other files with a high quality voice. This app you would have to buy and then you have to buy voices separately, most are $1.99 and a few are $2.99.
