Hi E V. You may think Raul is over-reacting, but I don't. :)
if I had not been at work when I saw your note, I would have responded, myself. So better late than never I guess. I completely stand behind everything that Raul said in reference to where this thread is going. the fact is that you do not know each person's individual efforts and how difficult or easy it might be for them to accomplish goals and / or overcome what some might see as extremely difficult tasks. No, we're sure not asking you or anyone else to keep your opinions to yourself, and I actually think you already know that. So please don't bother trying to incite heated discussion or flames. there's no need for you to retaliate. :) Everyone (you included) is always welcome to share opinions here, and after all, the original poster did ask for them. What we're suggesting is that anyone sharing such opinions just try to bare in mind how they may come across. We all have had experience where email communication might not come across like we want it to, so just keep this in mind when you write. We all work at different levels in our day-to-day lives and it's really easy to assume that everyone is capable of exactly the same things as we ourselves are capable of. However this is in a way, more of the same stereotype that we as blind and visually impaired people may experience from those who are sighted and may not be acquainted with many (or any) blind people. While it may be tempting to believe we as humans are all exactly the same, I think we all realize this is obviously not the case. :) So please do be aware of each other on this list when you share an opinion that might be controversial. I think controversy is awesome! :) -and it certainly has a place here. That's what makes us all interesting! :) We're all different, so please let's share those differences in a positive way. K? That's all… Pleas just be kind and supportive to each other. E V, you're not wrong, your sentiments can actually really inspire people to move themselves forward. Make your words positive and assist people and I think you'll be surprised at how many people actually agree with you and how many people you find that actually really are trying to move themselves to do as much as they possibly can accomplish. Help them to do this by supporting them and suggesting positive ways and resources for them. Does this make sense? Thanks so much to everyone! Please do keep your opinions coming and be cool to each other! :) Have an awesome day / weekend! I was not, repeat, was not targeting Dan when I wrote my message, it was a general message to the list. Are you suggesting that I am not entitled to express an opinion? Your quote of "If tasks get to difficult, then find a way to > overcome your challenges. That applys to just about everything in life." is a bit disturbing to me. Here is why. First off, what do you personally know about Dan, or about most others who subscribe to this list? Do you know what challenges someone might be faced with other than blindness, or maybe blindness is already a challenge as it is for some individuals and it's a daily struggle just to get by as it is. If I talk about me personally I can tell you that I've overcome the problems of losing my eye sight. However had someone said what you wrote to me during the first few years of me losing my sight, my response to you would be very harsh. You don't personally know my situation, whether I can overcome things or not. I agree that many things in life can be overcome, but not everyone is the same, not everyone has positive people around them, or maybe not everyone thinks in the same way to give them the ability to easily overcome challenges in life. So, before making assumptions of someone's message on list, let's step back for a bit and think how our message may sound or how it may come off. For example, how might you feel if using a harsh tone I pointed out that you misspelled the word "applies" because you wrote it as "applys". Thanks much from your friendly moderator. -- Raul A.
