Thanks for the suggestions. I may in fact give FeedHQ a spin. It looks like the Old reader is staying public after all, but with all the down time and other buggy issues with synchronization being lagging at times, searching out an alternative is something I'll look into regardless. Hopefully the various TOR issues are behind it, but still.
I did give InoReader a try since I also heard it mentioned being a light and easy rss service to use and Feeddler even in its latest update provides Inoreader support, but the webpage isn't all that accessible and even less so with IE. Firefox is a bit better, but still generallly not useable.
