Actually, considering that the company has always lost money on TapTapSee, your
statement that the company charging will hurt them more than it will help them
is completely incorrect.

If charging decreases the number of images that the company needs to pay staff
to identify, fewer staff need to be employed to identify said images. This
lowers some of the company's out-of-pocket expenses that they have been
incurring from donating this service which has been costing them significant
amounts of money.

Next, the people who do pay the fees help to offset the continuing cost of
paying staff to identify the images. Considering how many images the
identification staff must recognise in a day, and how much this has increased
over time as the app has become more popular, I suspect that their low fees
mean they are only trying to recover enough cost so they can continue affording
the loss. If they were attempting to break even, not to mention making a
profit, the fees would be substantially higher.
