As for the iPhone you would have to use a Bluetooth barcode scanner which
also of course has to work with the iPhone. These do exist, I believe you
might find some information on the Digit-Eyes website, but I also think
they
are quite expensive.
For a mac I would assume any USB barcode scanner would do the trick. I
haven't bought one in a long time, but assume they might be $100 and maybe
some are more. You would have to check in Denmark either with Amazon or
find
a company which sells point of sale stuff like cash registers, receipt
printers, barcode scanners etc. One thing you would have to keep in mind
is
that you definitely want one that is omni-directional which means you can
scan the barcode any which way, right side up, upside down, sideways,
skewed
and the scanner will recognize it. A USB barcode scanner just passes the
barcode on to the computer, I can, for example, open Notepad and scan a
barcode and the code just shows up in Notepad. I could do the same for
scanning it into the search field of Google or into any application.

I have a retail store and we use handheld Symbol USB scanners at the
register. These have a trigger, sort of a button you push as you scan
and which turns the scanner on. Anyhow, the speed and ease of use of
these is amazing, I can wave the thing roughly over a package or tag
and no matter if the barcode is right side up upside down or sideways
or skewed, the scanner gets It.
It is definitely easier than, for example, using the iPhone with
Digit-Eyes.
Here you get the best results if you make sure you are lined up
properly, then start the scanning process and slowly lift your iPhone
up and away so the camera progressively sees more of the package or
box. Any sideways movements are not good because everytime you move
the phone the camera has to auto focus again.
The USB barcode scanners I can swipe across a package or tag pretty
rapidely and they still get it.
