Especially in the beginning, but even now, sometimes when I am doing things in
the phone app, I put my phone into airplane mode. That way, it will tell me
that I can't call anybody if I hit the wrong thing and am about to do so. This
was after a couple of those two in the morning calls. I then must remember to
turn airplane mode off.

Yeah, I understand! You'd hate to wake somebody up at two in the morning and
have to explain that no, this isn't an emmergency, and you didn't really mean
to call them, you were just trying to add them to favorites - lol! I'm not so
sure there would be answering laughter on the other end! Glad you have it
working! It's really helpful to have some numbers in favorites and not to have
to search or go through the alphabetical index.

selecting Voice Call or FaceTime would initiate a call since I seem to be
inadvertently initiating calls all the time with the Voice app. I should have
realized that since I was in a screen to add a favorite, selecting one of those
would do just that.

Your mistake is at step 6. You actually only have three options. The first
one you are hitting is actually a descriptor and isn't even a button. You need
to choose to add it as voice call, facetime audio or facetime. What you say the
choices are is slightly different than what I have so either you are mistaking
facetime and facetime audio for the same thing or you are running a different
iOS version.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I've been unable to add a contact
phone number to my iPhone 5 favorites in the phone app. I'll admit that I find
the phone app not to be all that friendly so I guess I've just got a problem
with it. I am running iOS 6.1.4 and here are the steps I'm following without
success:
1. Open the phone app.
2. Go to Favorites which is the first item on the left in the bar at
the bottom.
3. Select Add which is available on the top-right of the screen.
4. Browse or search for the contact I want to add to my phone
favorites.
5. Open that contact and select the applicable phone number to add.
6. I then get four options that appear and the first one is Add the
contact name and phone number to favorites as: which is the one I execute. The
other options are Voice Call, FaceTime, and Cancel.
7. When I select Add, nothing happens and the four buttons remain on
the screen and nothing is added to favorites. I end up having to either select
cancel or scrub to back out of the screen.
Can someone direct me as to what I'm missing so I can add a phone favorite?
