Yes, Maria. The account and service are free. There is an iOS app and a Mac app. The whole affair seems quite cross-platform compatible. If you search Google using the two words "simplenote" and "review," you'll come up with a number of very favorable reviews. There's a review of the Mac app posted just yesterday by Macworld.
